The European Union has inaugurated the Resilience Against Climate Change (REACH) Project office in Wa in the presence of the Deputy Head of Mission, EU Delegation to Ghana, Mr Pieter Smidt Van Gelder on Tuesday May 18, 2021.
“With the inauguration of the new office, all the necessary conditions for a smooth implementation of REACH project are in place,’’ Mr Pieter Smidt Van Gelder said at the opening of the office. He added that “soon we will be able to observe the impact of the project in the beneficiary communities, notable in their increase of the resilience against climate change.”
The inauguration was jointly done with the Country Director, GIZ Ghana Mrs. Regina Bauerochse and the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih at the premises of the Upper West Regional Department of Agriculture. The office will serve as the headquarters for all Project activities in the project areas thus, Upper West, parts of Savannah and North East Regions.

Mrs. Regina Bauerochse, GIZ Ghana Country Director mentioned in her address that, GIZ on behalf of the German government promotes sustainable development in Ghana. “It is for this reason that the REACH Project is assisting communities in North West Ghana, to build resilience and mitigation measures against the impacts of climate change,’’ she added.
She said the office complex when fully operationalized will contribute to improving the effective conduct of work in the course of achieving the project’s objective.
The Upper West Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr Emmanuel Sasu-Yeboah in his remarks stated that, they have intension of getting partners such us Toyota Ghana, Japan Motors and others to come and use the facility (Engineering Unit) to service Government and company vehicles for a small user fee instead of sending vehicles to Tamale or Kumasi for servicing.

Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister, said the inauguration of the office will increase the collaboration among the various stakeholders leading to a successful implementation of the project.
He added that “the EU-REACH project has come at the right time to support Municipal and District Assembles in the area of planning and GIS training in response to climate change.’’
Prior to the commissioning, the project operated from temporal office spaces allocated to it by the Regional Department of Agriculture since its inception in 2019.
The Resilience Against Climate Change is a project supported by the European Union and is being implemented by GIZ Competitive Cashew Initiative (GIZ/ComCashew) and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), in close partnership and collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
