An Independent Member of Parliament for Machinga North East Constituency,
has called on Malawi government to invest more resources in early childhood education for the country’s productivity.
Kalitendere obseves that the sector is being underfunded, noting that out of 130 Community Based Childcare Centers (CBCC’s) in his constituency, only caregivers from four CBCC’s have been receiving their honoraria, despite parliament approving millions of kwacha to the sector last year.
He said this on Saturday at Kawiliwita Primary School under Senior Chief Nyambi where he engaged learners and caregivers to appreciate progress of the sector in his constituency.
Community Facility for Early Childhood education in Machinga, Joseph Tolani, says the caregivers have been put in phases to start receiving honoraria.
