The Malawi Congress of Trade Union (MCTU) has faulted Malawi government for failing to honour its obligation to sponsor the workers and employers delegation to take part in the 111th session of the International Labour Conference currently underway in Geneva Switzerland.
MCTU general secretary Madalitso Njolomole has told Zodiak Online that among others the authorities have failed to secure travel visas and provide subsistence expenses for its social partners.
However, secretary for Labour Wezzie Kaira has dismissed the assertions saying the government did all the necessary bookings only that some visas including were not approved on time by the Swiss embassy in Pretoria.
The 2023 International Labour Conference commenced on the 5th June and is expected to end on the 16th June. Often called the international parliament of labour, the conference brings together government’s, workers’ and employers’ delegation from among the International Labour Organizations Member States to discuss and adopt the best international labour practices.
