Record producer, David Kojo Kyei, popularly known as Kaywa has shared his take on investing in talents when they are new in the music industry.
On June 5, the award-winning music producer on his Instagram page revealed his 4 new signees (Cadeen, Joevibe, Shugalord and JoyVerse) after breaking off official ties with his old label mates.
When addressing why his new signees lacked female energy, Kaywa said that โIโve signed a lady before. Itโs not a joke. Itโs double work and more expensive. You need more time. So we want to focus on the gentlemen for now.โ
Appearing on 3FM Drive with Giovanni Caleb and AJ Sarpong on Tuesday, July 18, the CEO of Highly Spiritual Music Label indicated that before investing in new talents, there were criteria these personalities had to meet.
โUsually, we look at the passion behind what you do and whether you love itโฆ At least they know where they are going so itโs easy to push them. We look out for that more. We look at people who understand and fear God because when you do, there are certain things you wouldnโt do,โ he stated.
Kaywa also mentioned that getting funds was difficult. โItโs not easy. If I sit here and tell you itโs easy, itโs not. We shoot very expensive videos and after shooting one, you need to get another one running. Iโll not tell you where my money is coming from but itโs coming from somewhere,โ he said jovially.
Speaking to all investors out there, Kaywa pointed out that venturing into his line was lucrative though it came with risks especially when it has to do with new talents. However, he thinks itโs worth it as some of these talents are too good to be dismissed.
โIt really is if you do it well. Check your streaming platforms and ask any artiste that does it pretty well, youโll know that there is some great money coming in if you are doing it well.
Itโs business but itโs a risk. Putting money in fresh talents is not an easy job but we trust the process. Sometimes, there is no money but looking at the talent, you just canโt allow it to go to waste so you do everything to make it work,โ he concluded.
