Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale has revealed his childhood ambition albeit the fact that he’s now being revered as one of Ghana’s top Dancehall musician.
Even before his music passion could emerge, the artiste had dreams of becoming a pilot, a lawyer, or even the president, explaining that he had always desired to be a leader.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, October 15, Shatta remarked that he noticed early on that his peers often listened to him and took his words seriously, something which gave him the indication that he possess natural leadership skills.
He admitted that while he eventually became a musician, it was not amongst his ambitions as a child.
“I wanted to be…I chose three professions but one wasn’t a job, it was more like an ordained something. Pilot, lawyer and President,” he said.
He said his music career is also as an “ordained calling” rather than just a career path.
“The job we are doing is like Galamsey. When you fall inside the hole, to come out by God’s Grace…I feel where God has brought me now is more of a leadership kind of thing so I am just trying to follow that,” he added.
“With law, it’s not too late, but I don’t think it suits my schedule now. For politics, it’s in my blood. My dad is a politician; he worked with the late JJ Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu, so I could have pursued if I wanted.”
He thanked his father, Shatta Capo, for teaching him the value of self-discipline and self-education.
“My father valued self-education. His principle was ‘know thyself and align with your dreams.’ I was never in the last ten until SHS; that was my wake-up call, and it never happened again,” he recalled.
“I wish I had pursued those because music has been stressful. But I always say whatever God plans for you is the best,” he said with a laugh.
