Gyakie, the accomplished Ghanaian Afrobeat singer and songwriter, whose birth name is Jackline Acheampong, recently shared a fascinating insight into the trajectory of her career. Surprisingly, her initial career aspiration wasn’t rooted in the realm of music, but rather in the entrepreneurial sphere. Gyakie, widely recognized for her chart-topping hit “Forever,” recounted this revelation during an appearance on The Day Show with Berla Mundi.
Detailing the genesis of her musical journey, Gyakie disclosed that her path took an unexpected turn upon entering the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Prior to university, she harbored aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur, envisioning a future centered around financial pursuits. However, fate intervened when she crossed paths with her eventual producer, Sosa, on the KNUST campus, courtesy of a mutual friend.
Gyakie reminisced, saying, “So before I got into the university because that’s where everything started for me. Before I went to KNUST I just wanted to be an entrepreneur, I wanted to be getting money, so I studied International Business in KNUST until I met my producer, Sosa on campus through a friend.”
The turning point occurred when Sosa, impressed by Gyakie’s potential, sent her a beat. This marked the inception of her musical journey as that beat evolved into her debut single, which found its way onto various streaming platforms.
