My Landlady wants 2 years after increasing rent from Ghc350 to Ghc450 – Tenant laments

TV3 New Day spoke to Patricia, the lady who went viral for speaking candidly about the unfair treatment from her Landlady. She revealed that her Landlady increased her rent over short notice, demanding a two-year upfront payment.

According to the lady, her room located at Dansoman junction in Accra has not been renovated by the Landlady, which could be a reasonable increase of Ghc50.

“She called me one day saying she has increased the rent from Ghc350 to Ghc450. She called the next day to say that her husband said she should take 400 per month.

“I pleaded with her to take a year’s rent because I had only a month to renew with her new price. But she refused and asked me to move out because others will pay more for the room. Adding that homeowners are charging 600-800 for a single room self-contain.”

Continuing her narrative, the tenant disclosed the struggles with housing agents before securing her present place.

She noted that even before paying 10% of the total amount to the agent after securing the room, the prospective tenant is responsible for all the transportation costs during scouting and a viewing fee of Ghc70.
