Lawra SHS Old Boys Association (Lassosa) Presents Mattresses To School

Old boys of Lawra Senior High school(LASSOSA) today in a very short ceremony donated 100 pieces of student mattresses to their Alma mater.

Delivering a signed speech on behalf of their president by name Mr Stanley Eledi, the one time dinning hall prefect Mr Tengang read that, on the 21st March, 2022, the group sighted a story in the news and on social media about an unusual storm from nowhere which ripped off the roofing of the girls block “A” and causing various degrees of damage to block “B” and other structures.

Upon request from the school, the management requested if the old students could help the school with 300 student mattresses to support mainly the girls who got affected by the disaster.

On the 27th March, 2022, LASSOSA launched a fundraising campaign with the hope of purchasing the 300 mattresses for the school, the MP donated 100 mattresses and they also purchased 100 to support the school.

He added that, this modest gesture from the old boys is rather a drop in the ocean considering the magnitude of the disaster and wish they could do more than that but there is a limit to what an association of theirs can do practically.

They appealed to other organizations and bodies such as the NADMO department, GEtfund, the MCE and other relivant stake holders to salvage the situation of the students. He also added that, beyond the rehabilitation of the structure that got ripped off by the storm, it’s in their opinion and recommendation that, more periodic engineering assessments and renovation works should be done on all structures on the campus to avoid such disasters in the future.

The Headmaster who received the mattresses on behalf of the school thanked the old boys for the kind gesture and promised to distribute the mattresses to the affected students.
