District social welfare officer for Rumphi Malawi, Ziwanda Lungu has stressed the need to train service providers on how to handle cases of persons with disabilities.

Lungu made the call on Thursday at Chanyoli in the district during the commemoration of International Day of persons with disability conducted by The Diocese of Mzuzu Education Department.

Lungu says that most service providers such as health workers lack skills on how they can handle people with special needs like those with visual and hearing impairment.

Commenting on the matter, district disability coordinator for Malawi Council for the Handcuffed in Rumphi Oliver Kajiso Gondwe says this is promoting inequalities in service provision in sectors like health and education.
