VAPCO is a company that produces and sells local hand woven fabrics to impact the lives of women, school dropouts and people living with disabilities in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
VAPCO was established with the main motive of positively impacting lives by weaving local hand-woven fabrics/textiles after noticing some key economic challenges in her communities, the project aims to empower vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, young women, and school dropouts.
These groups often faced hardships, resorting to begging or early marriages due to lack of income-generating opportunities. To combat this, she founded VAPCO to provide free three-year training to participants, equipping them with the necessary weaving machines to start their own businesses after the training. Ongoing monitoring and support are offered to ensure their success so they can be financially independent to cater for themselves and families.
Since the incorporation of VAPCO, a good number of women have been graduated, provided them with the needed weaving machines and they are all thriving in their businesses while 27 others are currently undergoing the training. The project sustains itself through sales, offering quality products to attract customers/retailers, thereby generating income to support the financial needs of its operations.
The Company hopes to train and support 600 women, people with disabilities and school dropouts create their own income-generating businesses in the next 10years.
