Progress Upper West Music Awards (PRUMAS) is one of the first award scheme in the upper west region organize by Radio Progress 98.1fm. This year Wa Cooperative Credit Union(WACCU) is the main Sponsor of Progress Upper West Music Awards (PRUMAS) 2023.

Theme: “Celebrating Resilience, Peace and Unity: Empowering Industry in a Transformative Era”

Below are the list of categories definitions:

  1. ARTISTE(S) OF THE YEAR. The Artiste of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity. The Artiste(s) must have released a hit single/album during the year under review and a good behaviour.
  2. HIPLIFE ARTISTE(S) OF THE YEAR. The Hip life/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as having with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Hip life/Hip Hop Genre. They must have released a hit single/album during the year under review.
  3. REGGAE / DANCEHALL ARTISTE(S) OF THE YEAR. The Reggae/Dnacehall Artiste(s) of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Reggae/Dancehall genre. The Artiste(s) must have released a hit single/album in the year under review.
  4. NEW /PROMISING ARTISTE OF THE YEAR. The New Artiste of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the most promising and talented artiste (s). The award goes to the artiste(s) who released a recording that FIRST shot the artiste (s) into the public limelight during the year under review.
  5. BEST COLLABORATION OF THE YEAR. The Best Collaboration of the year is the song adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the song released through the collaboration/featuring of two or more Artistes. The song must have been released and generated the most excitement during the year under review.
  6. HIPPOP SONG OF THE YEAR. The Hiplife Song of the Year is the song adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the most popular Hiplife song released in the year under review. The song must have generated the most excitement during the year
  7. HIGHLIFE SONG OF THE YEAR. The Highlife song of the Year is the song adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the most popular Highlife song released in the year under review and generated the most excitement during the year.
  8. MOST POPULAR SONG OF THE AST YEAR. The Most Popular Song of the Year is the song adjudged 100% by the General Public as the most popular song released in the year under review, irrespective of genre. The song must have enjoyed a lot of patronage and generated the most excitement during the year.
  9. GOSPEL SONG OF THE YEAR. The Gospel Song of the Year is the song adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the most popular Gospel Song released in the year under review. The song must have generated the most excitement during the year.
  10. ALBUM OF THE YEAR. The Album of the Year is adjudged by the Academy and Board as the most outstanding compilation of hit songs on an album that was released during the year under review. It must have generated the most excitement during the year.
  11. BEST VOCALIST OF THE YEAR. The Best Vocal Artiste is adjudged by the Academy and Board as the VOCAL artiste (solo) with the best vocal delivery/Performance on any musical presentation which was released during the year under review.
  12. MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR. The Music Video of the year is adjudged by the Academy and Board as the most creative and entertaining music video produced within the calendar year. The song for which the video has been produced, need not have been released in the year under review.
  13. BEST RAPPER OF THE YEAR. The Best Rapper of the year is adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the rap Artiste with the best word compositions, rhymes and rap dexterity on a popular song released in the year under review.
  14. SOUND ENGINEER OF THE YEAR. The Sound Engineer of the Year award is adjudged by Peers and the Board to be the Sound Engineer directly responsible for the recording, mastering and technical treatment of a nominated song during the year under review.
  15. TRADITIONAL ARTISTE(S) OF THE YEAR. The Traditional Artiste(s) of the year is adjudged by the Academy and Boards as the most popular Traditional or Folkloric Artiste(s) in the year under review.

16. BEST DJ OF THE YEAR.The Best DJ of the Year is the DJ adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the DJ with the highest audience appeal, popularity and promotes local content in the Upper West Region.

    1. PEACE/SECURITY SONG OF THE YEAR. The peace/security song of the year award goes to the best with lyrics that promote peace, unity and security. It is adjudged by the board and public and must be released during the year under review.

NB:The year under review is from 1stDecember, 2022 to 1st January, 2024.
