The Radio Progress Upper West Music Awards Scheme has announced key updates ahead of its highly anticipated 9th Edition PRUMAS 2025 and promises another historic celebration of music and creativity in the Upper West Region.
In an exclusive interview with GBC Radio 90.1 FM on 10th January 2026, Mr. Aziz Sungumo, a Team member of PRUMAS, revealed essential information about the scope, sponsorship, and expansion of the awards scheme.
According to Mr. Sungoma, the official year under review for PRUMAS 2025 runs from 1st January 2023 to 30th December 2025; thus, all musical works and creative productions released within this period will be put into consideration in the 9th edition.
This confirmation brings clarity to the artistes and other industry stakeholders in preparing their various submissions and promotional campaigns in the lead-up to the awards.
PRUMAS 2025 is also expected to see excellent support at the institutional level, with major announcements of sponsorships for two award categories of particular social relevance:
The category, meant to displayed clean songs that would educate people on environmental and public health, has finally gotten the Wa Metropolitan Assembly as its sponsor.
Mr. Albert Jortee has also pledged his support as a sponsor of the Security/Peace Song of the Year category, which aims to allow the community to express their creativity in terms of peace building, unity, and security.
These sponsorships mark recognition of the growing power of PRUMAS as a platform that uses music and creativity to facilitate transformation.
The biggest sponsor of the PRUMAS 2025 event, the Wa Co-operative Credit Union (WACCU) has opened membership for the Creatives and Industry Workers. This means that the creatives will be able to open an account with WACCU, including availing financial services for conducting their businesses, just like the workers in the government.
The latest addition is part of an effort to empower artistes, content producers, media practitioners, and other stakeholders in the industry with financial resources to enhance their careers and businesses.
This expansion serves to show the commitment of PRUMAS to not only celebrating the performing artistes but also the entire ecosystem which fuels the development of the entertainment sector within the Upper West Region.
With new sponsors, greater involvement, and a defined period for the review, it looks like PRUMAS 2025 is poised to be one of the most influential editions. All stakeholders, artistes, as well as creatives, have been urged to be ready for the build-up towards what is expected to be a vibrant festival.
