St. Francis JHS emerged winners in the Jirapa Municipal Youth Association Junior High Schools quiz competition after defeating Presentation JHS, Ganaa Memorial JHS, Jirapa Girls Model School and Duori JHS.
Unlike their seniors in St. Francis Girls SHS who bowed to Ullo Senior High School in the debating contest, St. Francis Junior High School displayed a considerable amount of brilliance from round one to round three of the quiz competitions. They topped round one with 16 points, round two with 18 points and round three with another 16 points.
The quiz competition formed part of activities marking the Jirapa Municipal Youth Association 2021 Jamboree. The quiz was organized for the top five Junior High Schools in the Jirapa Municipality based on their performance in the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination. Presentation Junior High School from Chapuri topped the Municipality in the 2020 BECE. Many therefore expected them to carry the day. They gave in a good performance but could not match the brilliance from the contestants from St. Francis Junior High School as they placed second. Questions for the quiz covered mathematics, science, social studies and the history of Jirapa.
After the competition, corenewsgh spoke to some people who came to observe and support their schools. The team spoke to Donatus Dakurah an old bone of St. Francis JHS. He said “I am really impressed with the performance of all the contestants. However, contestants from St. Francis JHS were exceptional. They appeared more confident and were consistent from round one to three. They exhibited a high level of teamwork and smartness. I am not surprised they won the contest”. He added “since day one, I have maintained my confidence in my alma matta. I have stated publicly that St. Francis will carry the day because I know they never disappoint when it comes to academic work”.
“Everyone knows that St. Francis JHS is one of the best schools in Jirapa. You cant produce a genuine list of first five schools in Jirapa without including them. We always stand tall among the rest”, Donatus bragged
Participating schools in the quiz went home with various kinds of awards. Until the next JMYA quiz competition, St. Francis JHS holds the bragging right.
