U/W: I will put SDD-UBIDS on the global map of Excellence – Newly Sworn-in VC assures government

The newly sworn – in Vice Chancellor VC of the Simon Diedong Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies SDD-UBIDS in the Upper West region Professor Philip Duku Osei has promised stakeholders and government to give off his best in putting the newly autonomous University on the global map of excellence.

Speaking at the Swearing in ceremony of Professor Philip Duku Osei and Mr Job Asante as the maiden Vice Chancellor and Registrar respectively for SDD-UBIDS in Wa, the new VC said the university aims to provide transformational services to the general public, adding that the necessary structures have been put in place to achieve the transformational agenda.

“Our intention is to create SD Dombo graduate who is exposed, analytical, a critical thinker and employable.

“This is the reason why our academic board in 2021 created a student carrier guidance centre for our students to find the necessary tools to apply, learn and acquire skills”, Prof. Osei explained.

Speaking on the infrastructure deficit of the new university, the newly sworn-in VC appealed to government to fix the infrastructural gap as well as provide seed capital for the university.

Prof. Duku Osei disclosed that the university needs a whooping sum of 100 million US dollars to position itself well to cater for the growing infrastructure needs and enrollment of students perged at 15,000 by the year 2024.

On his part, the President Nana Addo Akufo Addo congratulated the newly appointed Vice Chancellor and Registrar on their new roles and promised them the utmost support of himself and government to succeed and put the University on the global map.

The President gave the assurance that government will take stringent measures to raise the seed capital for the operations of the new university.

President Akufo-Addo stated that as part of measures to improve Tertiary education in the country, government through the Ministry of Education is working assiduously to initiate policies to enhance the capacity of graduates.

The University Governing Council Chairman, Kweku Amoah Paintsil Esq, in his remarks commended the government and President Akufo-Addo for the conferment of an autonomy on the university to operate as a fully-fledged Tertiary institution in the Upper West region.

Administering the oaths of office to the two officers, Mr Yamoah entreated them to steer the affairs of the university in the best manner desired for its growth and development.

The investiture ceremony was attended by some Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Traditional authorities, Heads of government Departments, Lecturers, fresh and continuing students as well relatives and well wishers of the two newly sworn-in officers.
