Nominations for the Upper West Music Awards were announced on Wednesday 10th November, 2021 via the official social media handles of the scheme. 26 tough and competitive categories were revealed and had more than 110 Artistes, DJs and Camps (Party Seekers) put together, competing tightly.
Sambwoy Gh came out as the most nominated artiste with 9 nominations including the most competitive Artist of the year and the Album of the year where he happened to be the only nominee. He was also nominated for best rapper, best collaboration as well as hiplife/hiphop artist of the year among others. Following up is Ojay with 6 nominations and Best Gally with 5. Rekordz, Dakora Pardo Best and Kawute also followed up with 3 nominations each.
The most contested categories are Music video of the year and Reggae/Dancehall song of the year which had 12 strong contenders each. The New Artiste of the year, Best Collaboration and Afro beats song of the year categories had 10 nominees each competing closely and tightly.
The new category in this scheme, the Digital act of the year which seeks to award the artiste with the most social media following and digital streams was also strongly contested by four great musicians in the region including Stunner GH, Best Gally, Ojay and Nashberry.
Dates of start of voting, end of voting as well as the main awards night are yet to be announced by the organisers of the Upper West Music Awards.
