Music which is one of the most acknowledged arts of entertainment in Northern Ghana has been on the rise. Nevertheless many musicians strive to gain popularity at the national and international levels faced several setbacks holding them(musicians) from achieving stardom, and breakthrough in their music carrier. This has seen a lot of ‘underground artist’give up on realizing their God given talent in music and calling into the Music industry.
Northern Ghana, particularly the Upper East Region has some renowned musicians and a lot of emerging stars whose stories could reduce many to tears. One such artist whom many did not give him chance to showcase his talent and never believed in his music carrier is Mr. Kayah Joseph stage named Kayah Bu.
Kayah Bu is a Burkinabe-born Ghanaian as his father is a Burkinabe and his Mother is a Kasem from the Kasena- Nankana West District in the Upper East Region of Ghana. Kayah Bu nicknamed the ‘Crocodile’ is celebrated for most of his music videos as his used crocodiles in performance and recording. The young energetic musician first came to the scene in 2011 with his first hit song “Ni Sono” which was widely played both in Ghana and his fatherland Burkina Faso. His love for Ghana as he is also a Ghanaian by birth has made him release most of his hits songs in the mother tongue “Kasem”.
Remarkably, he has featured many music stars within the Ghanaian music industry includingthe legendry King Ayisoba, Michael Adangba, RasKuuku, Ammirado and others. He also featured in some foreign artist music video include the late Thony Harmony, a Nigerian Artist.
His breakthrough in life came in 2021 when he was nominated by Alhassan Arts Entertainment organizer ofI and C music awards in Ghana. The categories were;
- Best Vocalist in Kasem;
- (ii) Traditional Artist of the Year and
- Artist of the Year.
Impressively, being so much a hard-working artist, he won all the categories. He received several awards including a brand-new salon car, a cash prize, citations and other amazing prizes. His unforgettable remarks “when I started music, I never own a bicycle and winning a car shows my good work is appreciated’’.Kaya Bu who has command over the queen’s language and her mother tongue gave his strong commitment to continue to take traditional music and high life to the next level. Some of his hit songs include Ni Sono; Na God; Ammamere; Idolila; we go make am; Magiyago and so on.
