The player ratings from Chelsea’s last game of the season as Blues see off a tough Bournemouth outfit
Chelsea were made to work for it but eventually secured a 2-1 win to finish remarkable sixth in a challenging Premier League campaign. Moises Caicedo and Raheem Sterling got the goals for the Blues, with Benoit Badiashile scoring an own goal.
Caicedo was signed from Brighton in the summer to be the foundation of the Chelsea project, but has taken a while to get going. His last few games have been superb and here, he arrowed home from near the halfway line for what was a memorable first goal for the club.
Having died his hair blonde, the Ecuadorian was the engine in Chelsea’s midfield. Fans might be asking where has this form been all season, but today he sniffed out the danger and set his team on the front foot at every given opportunity.
Bournemouth are a good side and they came to Stamford Bridge with a chance to finish in the top half of the table. They asked the Blues tough questions and forced Chelsea to sprint and defend in places they weren’t comfortable.
But it was Chelsea that got the second goal, with Raheem Sterling reminding everyone of his class by beating his man and squeezing the ball into the net to give Chelsea some security.
But the Cherries responded immediately with Benoit Badiashile being forced to put into his own net after an Enes Unal strike. The goal looked to have landed a blow on the Blues who weren’t necessarily playing well in the game.
Caicedo was forced off through injury and Bournemouth’s form led to a bit of anxiety in the stands, but Chelsea held on what was an important win to secure their fifth win on the spin.
