DAANGA CALLS FOR 90% AIRPLAY OF SAVANNAH (GONJALAND ) MUSIC ON LOCAL RADIO STATIONS

Renowned Savannah Region artist Daanga, one of the most consistent and featured musicians in the area over the past two decades, has called on radio stations in the region to dedicate 90 percent of their airplay to music produced by local artists.

Speaking on Savannah Drums Drive on Nkilgi FM with host Carozy on June 3, 2025, Daanga urged regional stakeholders to use their influence to bolster the local entertainment industry. He emphasized the need for support to help Savannah’s music scene compete with other regions and contribute to Ghana’s broader cultural landscape.

Daanga expressed concern over what he described as a persistent preference for music from outside the region, which he says sidelines the tireless efforts of Savannah-based artists.

“The sleepless nights and dedication of musicians in this region often go unnoticed,” he said. “I believe Mahama Haruna, the General Manager of Nkilgi FM, with his long-standing support for the arts, can champion the push for 90 percent airplay of Savannah music on our local stations.”

He also lamented the apparent lack of appreciation for local music among the region’s residents.

“There seems to be no taste for our own music,” he said. “That’s one of the key challenges preventing Savannah music from spreading beyond the region.”

Daanga, who is currently the most subscribed artist from Savannah on YouTube, urged residents to rally behind local talents.

“Though not all of us produce high-quality music, industry players can identify and support those who are truly committed to growing the industry,” he noted.

He concluded with a call for unity and collaboration among his fellow artists.

“We need to embrace peace and unity. That’s the only way we can make a miracle happen for Savannah music,” he said.
