December 7th 2024 presented an opportunity to the people of Ghana to either embrace a solemn pledge by the NDC for e reset agenda or to keep faith with the NPP.

Not only did Ghanaians reject the NPP at the polls, it was done with a massive endorsement of John Mahama who pledged variously to undertake a reset of every facet of the Ghanaian society.

In pledging the reset, one key aspect of concern was the need to improve and expand the road network across the entire nation to better serve the needs of the people. The critical role roads play in any country cannot be discounted or downplayed. Whether the roads are good or bad determine their influence on commercial activities, agriculture and the daily travels of the populace which are hugely impacted either negatively or positively.

Owing to this known fact, the NDC pledged to initiate and implement a roads construction flagship program dubbed ‘The BIG PUSH’ with the aim of investing a whopping Ten Billion Dollars into the program.

This Ten Billion Dollar project is intended to focus on the construction of very key roads across the country as well as some highly prioritized government infrastructure as well.

With a high level of commitment to achieving a very successful Big Push Agenda, the President appointed one of the most impactful and quintessential young MPs whose work in parliament demonstrated clearly his dedication, commitment and diligence.

Hon Kwame Agbodza has been one of the most vocal and vociferous Members of Parliament who never minced words on the issue of the need for improved infrastructure and value for money in Ghana.

Ever since his appointment and subsequent assumption of the office of Minister for Roads and Highways, he has consistently pressed so hard on the accelerator to ensure that the road sector in Ghana features prominently in the reset agenda of the government.

Through his proactive leadership, many government stalled projects across the country have been reactivated with work progressing steadily.

Beyond that, new projects have been captured and rolled out under the Big Push Agenda with contractors on site and construction going on with visible and verifiable evidence of progress of work and percentage of works done.

In all of this, the hard work of the Minister and the stellar leadership he provides for the Ministry of Roads and Highways as well as its allied agencies has been very instrumental and hence commendable.

In spite of the voluminous pile of administrative work in the office, Hon Kwame Agbodza still finds time to traverse project sites to inspect and to access the performance of contractors and the quality of work being done on our roads. This offers the Minister, first-hand information on the projects under his supervisory role. This equally adds some impetus to the conduct of contractors and their project managers to stay through to the contract and as expected – this delivers value for money.

For a Minister to demonstrate a knack for close-supervision of projects on site over the tendency to sit back in a cozy air conditioned office speaks volumes about the commitment and dedication to duty by Hon Kwame Agbodza.

All across the country, the reports through the media of the progress of work on most of the projects under the Big Push Agenda indicate the potential success of the program. Majority of project sites visited by the inspection and supervision team from the Ministry and its agencies promise to deliver quality work ahead of scheduled completion dates.

It is little wonder therefore that the contributions of the Big Push to the reset agenda of the NDC so far features very prominently. When pinned to the wall to account for its performance or achievement so far, the government points to several road projects under the Big Push.

It is necessary to point out that the view of the reset under the Big Push is to connect the whole of Ghana by an improved and expanded road network. An improved and expanded road network would facilitate convenience in road transport, trade and commercial activities as well as agriculture and it’s value chain.

This promising future of an improved and expanded road network about to be realized is hugely attributable to the stellar and enviable leadership and performance of the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon Governs Kwame Agbodza.

His spirited zeal to help His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to fulfill its promise of resetting Ghana in the area of road network is palpably evident so far. His demeanor and approach to his work whether in parliament, at the Ministry of Roads and Highways or in the field supervising and inspecting projects, show a man on a mission to leave a legacy as a Minister for Roads and Highways.
