INTRODUCING INTERVIEWS AND ENTRANCE EXAMS : A STEP TOWARDS QUALITY TEACHER TRAINING

On July 18, 2025, Salahudeen Maburuk Sungnuma, a student of Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education, made a compelling argument during an interview on Basiwura Radio and BASIWURA Media. Sungnuma emphasized that it’s high time the government introduced interviews and entrance exams for admission into teacher training colleges across the nation. This proposal aims to ensure that only the most qualified and dedicated individuals are trained to shape the minds of future generations.

The current admission process for teacher training colleges may not adequately assess applicants’ subject knowledge, communication skills, and passion for teaching. By introducing interviews and entrance exams, the government can identify candidates with the potential to become effective educators. This rigorous selection process would help maintain high standards in the teaching profession and improve the overall quality of education.

By introducing interviews and entrance exams in teacher training colleges, Ghana can take a significant step towards producing high-quality teachers who will shape the future of the nation. This initiative would not only enhance the credibility of the teaching profession but also contribute to the overall improvement of the education system.
