Lead Singer of Grammy Award-winning reggae group, Morgan Heritage, Peter Anthony Morgan has passed away on February 23 at age 46.
The Morgan Family disclosed this in a statement to announce the death of their beloved.
โIt is out of sincere love that we share that our beloved father, son and brother and lead singer of Morgan Heritage, Peter Anthony Morgan has ascended today, February 23,โ the family said in a statement.
The family asked that its privacy be respected during this time of their healing.
Mr. Morgan, known as โPeetah,โ started Morgan Heritage withย seven of his siblingsย in the 1994. The band later became a quintet.
For some early albums, including โProtect Us Jahโ (1997) and โDonโt Haffi Dreadโ (1999), Morgan Heritage worked with Bobby Digital, one of Jamaicaโs most influential producers.
Before a show at New York Cityโs Irving Plaza in 1999, a New York Times music criticย wroteย that the band โholds on to the 1970s reggae traditions of harmony singing and thoughtful messages.โ
At the 2015 Grammys, the bandโs album โStrictly Rootsโ won for Best Reggae Album of the year. Its album โAvrakedabraโ was up for the same award two years later, but lost out to โStony Hillโ by Damian Marley, a son of Bob Marley.
