In a heartwarming act of philanthropy, Abdulai Abdul Hafiz, a renowned philanthropist from Wa, has provided a new lease on life for Osman Mohammed, a 25-year-old resident of Loggu in the Wa East District. For the past 25 years, Mohammed has lived with a condition that has confined him to moving on his knees and palms.

The story of Mohammed’s struggles was brought to light by Muniru Ibrahim, a journalist and manager of Radio Mak, who posted a video on social media. The video showcased Mohammed’s daily challenges and his heartfelt appeal for a wheelchair or bicycle to aid his movement, and a laptop for learning.

Moved by the story, Abdulai Abdul Hafiz swiftly responded. On the morning of July 21, 2024, Hafiz traveled to Loggu and donated a brand-new wheelchair to Mohammed, fulfilling one of his most significant desires. This generous act marks a turning point in Mohammed’s life, offering him newfound mobility and independence.

Mohammed, who recently graduated from Kaleo St. Basilde’s Technical and Vocational Institute with a specialization in Fashion and Design, expressed profound gratitude for the support. He also appealed for a hand sewing machine and a master to help him further hone his skills and pursue a career in fashion and design.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Osman, Mohammed’s father, recounted the family’s long and futile efforts to find a medical solution for his condition. From hospitals to traditional medicine, nothing could enable Mohammed to walk. Despite these challenges, Mohammed persevered through primary school, junior high school, and has now completed his technical education.

In his remarks, Abdul Hafiz shared his motivation for the swift response. “I was touched when I saw the video. It was sent to me by my friend, Anas, and I quickly had to act on it. I have always said that my happiness comes from helping others. Mohammed is smiling now, and that is how we all want to smile. I’m glad I am able to help Mohammed,” Hafiz said.

Hafiz’s contribution has not only provided Mohammed with physical mobility but has also instilled hope and joy in his life. Hafiz’s dedication to philanthropy exemplifies the sentiment expressed by Timothy Pina: “Philanthropy is not about money. It’s about feeling the pain of others and caring enough about their needs to help.” Through his actions, Hafiz has demonstrated a deep commitment to improving the lives of others, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

As Hafiz promised to return to Loggu, he left behind a beaming Mohammed, whose life has been profoundly transformed by this act of kindness.
