Plan International Ghana has stressed the need for support to female-led businesses to overcome the myriad of challenges affecting them.
It said over the years that have been various opportunities that come in the agribusiness sector for instance but they are silent on promoting or supporting women.
Madam Josephine Fiawornu, the Sponsorship Manager at Plan International Ghana, said as young people females are vibrant but only need is a little push, both technically and financially to survive their businesses.
She was speaking at the launch of Female-led Agribusiness Project in Wa on Thursday.
In all, eight female-led agribusinesses were supported by the Plan International Ghana to scale up their business and to bridge the gap between the males and females in the agribusiness sector.
The support included cash amount of GH₵30,000.00 each, mentorship, capacitates building in book keeping and business management, product branding and marketing among others.
She indicated that the project was therefore developed as a response mechanism to the challenges identified through the consultations.
Madam Fiawornu explained that Plan International Ghana had worked with young people over the years and come to realize the orgnaisation need to support women in agribusiness with the needed finances and skills development.
She said there were a number of challenges that females face in the agribusiness sector including negative gender norms, and land acquisition and called for change in those norms to help develop the female.
