Don’t say that Sabrina Carpenter never warned you.
The Grammy-winning popstar opened up about her music and visuals not being everyone’s cup of “Espresso” due to their sexual nature in a clip of her upcoming interview with Gayle King for CBS Mornings.
After King complimented the 26-year-old for her “unapologetic” lyrics that have “some people … clutching their pearls,” Carpenter replied that her new album “is not for any pearl clutchers.” She then backtracked a bit, saying, “I also think that even pearl clutchers can listen to an album like that in their own solitude and find something that makes them smirk and chuckle to themselves.”
On her seventh album, “Man’s Best Friend” (out Friday, Aug. 29), nine of the 12 tracks are labeled as explicit, and her cover art – featuring her kneeling on the floor as a hand pulls her blonde locks – divided the internet.
Her live performances for her most recent album, “Short n’ Sweet,” became known for Carpenter’s wide-ranging closet of lingerie costumes, cheeky interactions with the crowds and her verbal and physical sexual innuendos.
Performances of her song “Juno,” a cheeky track about wanting to become pregnant because of how much she adores her partner (“Wanna try out some freaky positions?”), have gone viral during her ongoing tour due to her reenactment of various creative sex positions.
Carpenter told King she knows some people think her lyrics are “TMI.”
She added, “But I think about being at a concert with however many young women I see in the front row that are screaming at the top of their lungs with their best friends. And you can go like, ‘Oh, we can all, like, sigh of relief like, ‘This is just fun.'”

“Man’s Best Friend,” Carpenter’s seventh studio effort, follows the release of her Grammy-winning 2024 album “Short n’ Sweet.” The album, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, spawned the hit singles “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” “Taste” and “Bed Chem,” as well as solidified the singer’s playful pin-up girl image.
Carpenter first teased “Man’s Best Friend” with the release of “Manchild” on June 5. The music video for the synth-pop track drew buzz on social media for Carpenter’s bold look, which consisted of a white button-up, baby blue heels and denim “micro” shorts.
