Daanga your efforts in transforming Gonja music can never be underestimated therefore you should have known better. For you to even accept that Gonja Music is retrogressing is very unfortunate and attributing it to GLYA simply means you have a lot of work to do.
I can say for a fact that Gonja music is steadily gaining momentum and I believe that our musicians will someday rise to the top. Few years back Musicians in Gonjaland were very few but today you can’t even count them. That is progress right there.
In the past you will stage a show in some parts of Gonjaland and nobody will show up but that story has changed. Our guys are actually doing very standard songs and that alone gives me hope.
Meanwhile, Gonjaland Musicians Association has refused to identify itself with the mother Association (GLYA) and I wonder how he want GLYA to support when he’s not a card bearing member of the Association.
Mid last year (2019) the Savannah Film makers Association came to register with GLYA and have since been part of the central committee of GLYA. They contribute their dues and as I speak they have a special role to play in Daboya this year and in subsequent years GLYA is giving them a platform to get their movies premiered during Congress.
As the PRO of GLYA, I reached out to the Musicians Association and told them about the move that was taken by the film makers and also encouraged them to follow suit but I was ignored.
I want to challenge Daanga to design a Proposal on how GLYA can help turn around the fortunes of Gonjaland music and submit it to leadership. Unfortunately in his remarks he didn’t outline suggestions and that makes his comment opened for a lot of questions.
The maiden Kisheko music Awards although was a private and commercial initiative but the President of GLYA Lawyer Alhaji Mohammed Amin Osman supported the team with an undisclosed amount because it’s an initiative that is capable of challenging our artist to work extremely hard.
Daanga, this is a humble appeal, please get your Association registered with the mother Association (GLYA) and then be a card bearing member and as well pay your dues.
