The Wa Youth Summit 2025 was a resounding success, bringing together about 150 participants from over 20 Youth groups, youth organizations, and institutions, including security services such as immigration and fire services, to discuss practical strategies for youth empowerment. The summit was organized by the SFD Foundation led by Selina Aboyinga, Executive Director, in partnership with Suma-Asum Restaurant, Mara Food, Noni Hub, IPSG, Sung Foundation, Grand Hyatte Lodge, Metro Mass, and the MD of Metro Mass, and Sotek Solutions (Nero Water), with the aim of equipping the youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive sustainable development.
The keynote speaker, Mr. Abdul-Hayi Moomen, delivered an inspiring talk on “Positioning Yourself for the Right Opportunities as Youth”, emphasizing the importance of preparation, confidence, and competence in grabbing opportunities. He encouraged the youth to focus on the opportunity ahead, rather than getting bogged down by obstacles, and reminded them that confidence comes with competence, so finding their strengths and building on them is essential.
Following the keynote address, two insightful panel discussions were held, which tackled key topics such as “Turning Vision into Reality: Practical Strategies for Youth to Drive Sustainable Solutions” and “Empowering Youth to Thrive: Strategies for Building Resilience and Preventing Drug Abuse”. Expert speakers shared their expertise, engaging with participants through Q&A sessions, and providing valuable insights on how to drive sustainable solutions and build resilience.

The summit also featured interactive breakout sessions on CV writing skills, business proposal development, and starting and funding youth-led organizations, which equipped attendees with practical skills for success. These sessions were designed to empower the youth with the necessary tools and knowledge to turn their visions into reality.
The Guest of Honor, Honorable Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., Upper West Regional Minister, shared valuable insights on career development, emphasizing the importance of customization, entrepreneurship, and addressing social issues like drug abuse. He encouraged the youth to think beyond traditional employment and to consider setting up private businesses, highlighting the troubling issue of drug abuse among the youth and its impact on national development.
The summit concluded with special recognition being given to Prof Felicia Naatu, Chairperson, and Mr. Abdul-Hayi Moomen, Keynote Speaker, who received citations of honor for their outstanding contributions. Certificates of participation and partner appreciation were also presented, acknowledging the efforts of all involved.
Overall, the Wa Youth Summit 2025 was a game-changing movement of inspiration, sparking passion and potential in the hearts of the youth, and equipping them with practical tools to turn their dreams into reality. The summit ended with a call to action, encouraging young people to turn their visions into reality, take responsibility for their social media presence, and make deliberate efforts to become valuable citizens, with the expectation of an even bigger and better experience next year.
