On October 11, 2024, the sons and daughters of Ketuo living abroad demonstrated their deep commitment to the development of education in their hometown by making a significant donation to Ketuo Primary School and JHS, located in the Nandom Municipality of the Upper West Region. This generous gesture was inspired by the outstanding performance of three young girls from Ketuo who recently took part in a regional reading competition, proudly representing the Nandom Municipal Education Office.
These girls, through their hard work and dedication, not only showcased the potential of students from Ketuo but also sparked a wave of motivation among the community in the diaspora. Their impressive performance in the reading competition brought attention to the importance of fostering literacy and improving educational resources for children in the area.
The donation included over 1,100 exercise books, two desktop computers,Printer and a variety of school essentials such as sandals, school uniforms, and bags for the three contestants who competed in the reading competition. Recognizing the need to enhance the quality of education, the donors also provided a Jolly Phonics training program for the teachers. This training aims to equip the educators with the skills needed to teach phonics, enabling the students to improve their reading abilities, particularly in pronunciation and comprehension. Ketuo JHS students also received some of the exercise books.
Jolly Phonics is known for its effectiveness in teaching young learners how to read by emphasizing sounds and phonics. The training will empower the teachers at Ketuo Primary School to implement this innovative approach in their classrooms, thereby raising the standard of literacy education.
