DAANGA FIRES BACK : “Seal Is an Old Cargo That Needs Overhauling
The Savannah Region continues to grapple with slow growth in its music industry, more than two decades on. This ongoing stagnation has sparked debate over the challenges holding back the region’s musical progress.
Seal, a veteran musician who has left the music scene for long and entertainment critic, has repeatedly blamed the region’s artists for what he describes as “laziness” and a lack of commitment to producing mature lyrics and high-quality content.
According to him, this failure undermines the region’s ability to compete musically with other parts of Ghana.
He has also been vocal about what he sees as apathy from local residents, criticizing their reluctance to support artists by following them on social media, liking, sharing, and commenting on their content.
But in a fiery response, Daanga, a longstanding and versatile musician from the Savannah Region speaking of Nkilgi FM’s Savannah Drums drive, hit back at Seal’s commentary, accusing him of being disconnected from the current realities of the industry.
“Seal is an old cargo that needs overhauling,” Daanga said. “He abandoned music, yet he sits on the sidelines throwing insults at artists who are still in the game.”
Daanga challenged Seal to return to the music scene if he believes he can do better, suggesting that his criticism lacks credibility given his own struggles to succeed as an artist.
“If he knows so much about what we should be doing, then he should come back and show us,” Daanga added.
He further urged Seal to show respect to both current and veteran artists who have worked hard to uphold the reputation of Savannah music, rather than dismissing their efforts.
“He should stop calling it a ‘banana industry.’ We have people here who have kept the dignity of Savannah music alive,” Daanga stated.
The exchange has ignited further conversations in the region about the way forward for Savannah’s music industry, with many calling for unity and constructive dialogue instead of personal attacks.
