Like the rest of the world, the Wa Central Constituency has just entered into the New Year of 2022 with a lot of promise and expectations. Undoubtedly, the past year 2021 was quite challenging and tough for a majority of the Ghanaian people. This was corroborated by the President of the Republic during his address to the delegates of the NPP at their recently held National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
The NDC in the Wa Central Constituency is looking up to improvement in its lot from all fronts; social, economic, health, education, infrastructure etc. It is an eyesore to witness the quagmire that has gripped the constituents over the years. There are all manner of calls for a change in the leadership and trajectory of the constituency in Parliament.
The Constituency needs a new face that will infuse some urgency and bring on board some form of pragmatism needed to address the myriad of concerns raised by the constituents every other day. Our Constituency needs a Member of Parliament who doesn’t necessarily need to rely on government or state to respond to the aspirations of the people.
It is a fact that, no one political party can remain in government forever. This suggests that in selecting a Member of Parliament, the Constituency needs to select or elect a Member of Parliament whose network and base transcends just partisan political considerations. The prospective Member of Parliament must have what it takes to explore interventions for the constituency beyond the political realm. Whether in government or in opposition, the Member of Parliament must be able to discharge his mandate effectively and efficiently.
The race for the Parliamentary candidature is already in a high gear though not officially sanctioned yet by the party. However, I cease this special occasion of a New Year to remind the NDC fraternity in the Wa Central Constituency in particular to aver their minds to this humble admonishment is we look forward to selecting a Parliamentary Candidate for the 2024 elections. The current composition of Parliament should prick us all not to gamble with this process as the stakes are high and we need to give no chances at all.
Lawyer Wahid Iddrisu Bampuori has proven over the years through his conduct and character of his commitment and dedication to impacting positively on the NDC at large and the Wa Central Constituency in particular. His candidature offers hope and breathes a new sigh of relief for the Constituency. Let’s not let this opportunity slip by.
