The Kobine Festival, an annual celebration held in Lawra within the Upper West Region of Ghana, is a joyous post-harvest tradition. It serves as a heartfelt expression of gratitude to God, the deities, and ancestors for the abundant harvest received.

Kobine consistently falls within the first or second week of October, but preparations kick off in September. This year’s festivities commenced yesterday, running from September 7 to October 7, 2023.

The event lineup includes a Health Walk, the MTN Football Gala Competition, a Farmers Forum, Remembrance Night, Street Jams (Music Night), and a grand Durbar of Chiefs.

The MTN Football Gala Competition for this year starts on Sunday, September 10, 2023, with the main event scheduled from October 7 to 10, with participants arriving on the 7th.

The apex of the celebration, a day dedicated to Culture and Heritage, is scheduled for October 9, 2023.

All these vibrant activities, except for the general cleaning of the surroundings, will be hosted at the Naa Abeifaa Karbo Memorial Park.

The Kobine Festival’s allure consistently draws a massive attendance, attracting people not only from across the country but also from the region itself. Traditional festivals play a crucial role in preserving culture and fostering community bonds.

They also serve as platforms for religious expression, and generating economic opportunities for local communities.
