NCOPST is calling for equality and Fairness in the 2020 school placement

Message from Executive Director of NCOPST, Ackon James

30 % Privilege for Students in Public Schools must be abolished and upgrade the CSSPS for efficiency.

As Ghana attains 64 years with Hon. Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum as the new Minister of Education, the first change he should effect in the Educational system of Ghana is to abolish the 70 % Privilege for Students in Public Schools with regards to school placement. This attitude encourages Teachers and students in the public sector to relax in the teaching and learning process, after all if students fail, GES policy will get them 1st class schools.

If Teachers in the private schools are non professionals and teachers in public schools are Professionals, why this 70% privilege? We feel it is a cheat and should not be entertained.

Teachers in private schools are tired of preparing students to get 9ones and be placed in C or D schools allowing the Professional teachers whose students attain grade 30 and above rather gain admission into first class schools. Private schools Teachers are unhappy about this situation.

Private school teachers Council in Ghana, (NCOPST) feel that with immediate effects, that privilege given to public school students with regards to school placement must be abolished. We look forward to see equal opportunities for both parties and fairness from 2021 and beyond when it comes to school placement and everything pertaining to education under the abled leadership of Hon. Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, Minister of Education.

As a founding member of the Ghana National Association of ICT Teachers (GNAIT) and also the Executive Director of the National Council of Private School Teachers (NCOPST), I humbly wish to bring to the notice of the Minister of Education, Hon Dr. Osei Adutwum, the failure of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System. The system has been a failure and it must be looked at due to the following:

A. No placement
Thousands of students going in for self placement despite five (5) schools Selected. The CSSPS couldn’t place about thousands of students in any of the five schools Selected. Majority of the schools available for self placement are school D while thousands of students attained grade 06.

B. Students placed in day status in schools in another Region
GES receives thousands of complains from parents concerning their wards placed in schools in other regions with day status. This means that parents have to rent an apartment for a 14 year old boy or girl near the school. Mr. Minister, how can this ever be possible in era of free Education?

The National Council of Private School Teachers is counting on you, Hon Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, the minister of Education, a listening and humble father to come to our aid by upgrading the CSSPS to efficiently promote equality and fairness in the placement of students in schools against their results, reducing the number of self placement and abolishing the 70% privilege for students in public schools.

We congratulate you once again, on your appointment and we duly wish you all the best.

Thank you.
Executive director
